Envisioning Girls With Strength.
I spend a significant amount of my time at work shifting through hundreds of stock photography- searching for that 'perfect one' for whatever project I am working. My coworkers and I will send around crazy photos that we find during our searches and share a laugh. We have running jokes about the plethora of perfect caucasian families and the lack of respectable and real people.I stumbled across this amazing collection on Getty Images though who collaborated with Lean In (the women’s empowerment nonprofit founded by Sheryl Sandberg) to curate a library of images devoted to the powerful depiction of women, girls and the people who support them. The collection boasts over 2,500 images of real and awesome female leadership in contemporary work and life. The women in these photos are gorgeous and strong and powerful and real and natural.Sometimes when I talk about feminist issues or I see other women talk about feminist issues - it can feel like we are stomping our feet and belting out lyrics to a Beyonce song. (Who run the world? Girls! Yeah... No.) It sometimes feels like others only see it as ferocious calls to kick men out of the picture. It is about equality and respect and being seen as anything but an object. We are not the weaker sex or of a gentler disposition. We are real and passionate and love what we do.View the Entire CollectionLearn More about Lean InView the Entire CollectionLearn More about Lean In
