soap scum vanquish.
This is almost too embarrassing for me to post- but way too awesome for me to not share. Ever since I got married I have fought with soap scum... to the point where I would save whole days to scrub down my tub. At the end of those days I would be exhausted, my arms would hurt from the scrubbing, and I would be a little light-headed with watery eyes from the fumes. I felt like the biggest failure as a "house-wife" on the planet (not that my husband ever expected me to be the "house-wife" - he could really care less about how much soap scum was in the tub. seriously... he doesn't care at all). When we moved into our new, nicer apartment- I was dreading the soap scum cleaning days.(Little side note : it didn't help that our first apartment had some major water leaking issues and horrible grout... so I was also fighting a losing battle with mold, so that was a literally a daily chore of cleaning with a little bleach to fight off the mold. SO... I was super excited to see nice well taken care grout and hopefully no leaking water pipes.) Then through an amazing bout of inspiration (when I accidentally poured a bunch of baking soda into my kitchen sink) I decided to try some all-natural, home made cleaning recipes. I was really hoping to avoid the awful fumes is really all I had hopes for- I still expected the day of scrubbing. So I did a little reading- grabbed my baking soda, some white vinegar, a grapefruit, kosher salt, a washcloth, and hard bristled brush and headed into the bathroom ignoring my husband's questions about why I was carrying weird food items into the bathroom. I am never going back. I swear.
So I hope you can tell the difference between the before and after? I know!!! That before picture is awful awful... I'm super embarrassed. Look at the difference though!! The crazy part- I spent maybe 15 minutes at the very most cleaning that tub and it SPARKLES now! What I did: 1. Cut grapefruit in half and sprinkled each half with enough salt to completely cover it.2. Got the tub a little wet- then sprinkled a little salt in the bottom.3. Scrubbed the tub with one half of the grapefruit4. Covered the bottom of the tub with baking soda (it fizzed a little)5. Then poured in a little vinegar over top (it fizzed a lot)6. Scrubbed with the hard bristle brush (takes a little elbow grease)7. Rinsed out the tub (and then I GASPED it was sooo white and clean)8. Scrubbed the tub again with the other half of the grapefruit (only cause it smelled good)9. Rinsed the tub again to get rid of the left over grapefruit pulp :DAmazing. That's really all I have to say.
